Just because your joyrider likes to run more than they like to be carried, it doesn't mean it is time to hang up your carrier.
Little legs get tired on big adventures, and you will be amazed at how much more comfortable an ergonomic toddler carrier is than trying to piggy back an uncooperative preschooler!
Toddler carriers as a general rule are more supportive with a bit more padding to help you comfortably carry the greater weight. They also have wider and taller back panels to comfortably and safely hold a bigger kid.
My top three toddler carriers are:
LennyLamb Up (or Upgrade) - now I will be honest, I bought this carrier for the Joy Riders carrier library, but it can be found hanging by my back door more often than it is in the library cupboard! The woven material is beautifully soft, the shoulder padding is plush, and check out how much height there is on that back panel! It's not even fully extended in that picture, so there will be years of carrying opportunities without needing to size up.
Soul Slings onbuhimo - I tried a bunch of onbuhimo before buying this one for my personal use (and now I have an extra for the library) the dimensions are just right to give me a really comfy carry every time. Packs down small, and is great for quick ups and downs from a toddler who cant make up their mind if they want to walk or not.
The Beco Toddler is another toddler carrier with great ergonomics. This carrier also has the benefit of being available in a cool mesh version, perfect to keep you cool while adventuring.
And an honourable mention to both the trusty ring sling, perfect to have tucked into your bag for just incase, and the Boba X. Both super versatile options that will take you from newborn to toddlerhood.
What is your favourite carrier for your toddler or preschooler?
